The basic results of the research dedicated to the assessment of the impact of production environment harmful factors on workers of the ceramic industry of Iran are provided. Based on the literature review results and working conditions at Iranian ceramic industry enterprises, it has been established that specific attention must be paid to the impact of physical factors affecting workers among the harmful factors of the production environment. The following basic harmful physical factors have been selected for the research: aerosols of primarily fibrogenic action, noise, microclimatic parameters, and illumination environment parameters.
In accordance with the goals of the research, a methodology of comprehensive risk assessment considering the total action of factors in question has been proposed for development. Main working groups have been assigned for the task (in accordance with the main workplaces with typical operations and working conditions). A practical result has been obtained at one of the ceramic industry enterprises, where all workers have been organized into seven occupation groups based on the impact of the production environment's harmful factors. The Pareto principle has been proposed for classifying and assessing the obtained risk levels.
The results obtained have allowed for determining the most significant harmful factor, which is respirable dust, and identifying production areas of the greatest non-compliance with working conditions. The approach to risk assessment proposed in the article can be applied to other industrial enterprises.
