The paper presents the results of experimental studies on the improvement of operational safety in 6–35 kV distribution networks, based on the implementation of a partial-discharge online monitoring and temperature monitoring systems. The studies were conducted in an operating industrial enterprise of a continuous process cycle, specific to the mining and processing industries. As shown, using standard sensors helps detect pre-failure conditions in cable lines and contact connections without shutting down the workflow. Quantitative diagnostic criteria have been determined; exceeding them significantly increases the risk of accidents. The implementation of the proposed approach ensures the reduction of calculated risk by more than fivefold, which is a matter of great importance for metallurgical, chemical, and oil and gas enterprises. The obtained results confirm the significance of the transition from scheduled maintenance to the preventive safety management model.
