Research Interests
 Area of specialty is rock mechanics, rock fragmentation, mechanical rock excavation, tunneling, and rock drilling.
 Over 26 years of combined design, management, research, and teaching in the field of mining, tunneling, civil infrastructure, and underground construction. This includes advanced and mechanized tunneling, microtunneling, directional drilling, and mining systems used around the world. Projects varying from feasibility study to design, execution, and post construction analysis in tunneling and mining coal, industrial Minerals, and underground hard rock. Experience in project management, planning and execution of geotechnical investigations, procuring of mining and tunneling equipment, cost estimation, bid preparation, and feasibility analysis for mining and underground construction projects. Active participation in several tunneling projects in various capacities.
 Over 140 papers/presentations including 50 peer reviewed journal papers. Over 40 technical reports.
