The article considers modern methods of training for worker personnel and students of higher schools for industrial and occupational safety using Virtual Reality (VR) technology. An innovative approach to training for safety using a unique virtual reality equipment set VR Training Bundle at the Department of Mining Machinery and Electromechanical Systems of the Irkutsk National Research Technical University (IRNITU) has been elaborated. The scenarios to be drilled have been described, and fragments of three-dimensional simulation developed to study objects of mechanization and automation of mining production processes and train occupational safety specialists within the university framework of safety disciplines have been demonstrated. The practices of the use of VR in various Russian and international industries, both at enterprises and educational institutions, have been analyzed. The advantages of the implementation of VR technologies in the training process of mining engineers — mechanic engineers and occupational safety specialists — include the compactness of training in digital format, applicability to an unlimited number of employees, the possibility of the practical use of newly obtained knowledge and drilling complex processes, employee-oriented training for operation of expensive or hazardous equipment free of risk to life or risk of injury, potential malfunction or environmental damage, and making study materials clear and interesting.
